Mumbai: Sleuths of the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch have arrested a woman from a hotel in the city for allegedly operating a sex racket. A model and a television actress — who were allegedly forced into prostitution by the female pimp — have been rescued.
Following a tip-off, a man acting as a decoy customer called up the arrestee. She asked him to come to a five-star hotel in the city’s Santacruz area on Wednesday. When the decoy customer arrived at the hotel, the woman pimp asked to pay Rs 1 lakh.
After the accused took the money from the decoy customer, she was arrested in the presence of police panchas. A woman who has acted in television serials and a model were rescued from the racket. The two had been pushed into flesh trade by the accused woman, according to a report by The Times of India.
The report further stated that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). The accused woman’s mobile phone is being examined to extract more details about her network. The witnesses in the case will be the two rescuees.
In another incident, a man allegedly tried to end his life outside the state secretariat Mantralaya in the Maharashtra capital on Friday.
As per reports, the man identified, as Subhash Jadhav (48), allegedly tried to consume pesticide while standing outside the secretariat building on Friday afternoon. He was immediately taken to a government hospital for medical care. He is said to be in a stable condition now.
Jadhav, a resident of Pune district, had come to the Mantralaya for meeting officials in connection with a property dispute, an official said. . Jadhav was, however, not permitted to go inside, as the entry was restricted in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. After this, he tried to kill himself.
